STOP TALKING TO THE DEAD....     TALK TO THE LIVING GOD

Do those who have died read Facebook postings? Perhaps the better question is “Can those who have left this world for the next read Facebook?” I can’t imagine they would want to since those of us still in our right mind wonder if we want to read all the postings of what someone is eating for breakfast. Just as strange is the public monolog given by a surviving relative at a funeral to the one who had passed these gates of death and whose body is “laying in state” in front of all.

I ask these questions because of two recent incidents that came across my consciousness. A few days ago I read a FB posting to a person who died some time ago. It was addressed to the deceased! The thoughts were sensitive and indicated how much he was missed. I can appreciate that the author wanted the world to know how much he was loved and cherished. The second event was some time ago when at a funeral a son of the deceased talked to the deceased as if she were either in the casket cognoscente of the eulogy which was addressed to her, or was in glory (“Absent from the body…”) and could hear the wonderful words extolling her.

But as my special friend said today “those of us who are called “nit pickers”” find it hard to enter into the elucidations of sorrowing folks in arenas that are not supported by the Scriptures let alone encouraged or commanded. The only text which has been used by some to defend addressing the deceased is from Hebrews 12 “…so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us…” But most conservative expositors and biblical scholars give no ground for the deceased looking down over the banister of glory on our activities, hearing our sorrow, enjoying being missed, pained by what we are passing through after their departure or hearing or reading our words of acclamation and praise.

Surely the presence of our Lord does not allow the deceased to indulge in the pain of knowing what is going on on earth among their relatives and friends. Their joy would be greatly diminished if they wanted to or were allowed to share in our sorrow for them or sorrow for ourselves. The Lord God hears our voices and knows our thoughts but those who have passed through the gates of splendor have no capacity or desire to enter into our lives in a world they have left behind. That capacity belongs to God.

But what blessing it is to know that our God knows our activities from the womb to the tomb as Ps 139 so clearly defines. What comfort to know He knows, He hears, understands, enters into, superintends, arranges, teaches, guides, helps, holds, etc. All of this and more no matter how much we are sorrowing, rejoicing, in poverty or prosperity, in sickness or health, in faith or fear, unbelief or faith, and all other exigencies that come into our life. To know He knows releases us from seeking some interaction with those who have gone on before us. But learning from them the lessons they have learned, as Heb 11 so ably expounds, give credence to the blessing of memory without communion with those who have left us an empty body.

I HAVE NOBODY

Have you ever cried out at any time in your life "I have nobody, I am forsaken." Often you may think that your wealth, health and friendswill last forever. But when you face the darker realities of life you may feel rejected and deserted." I have nobody" was the cry of a man who was waiting at the Bethesda pool in Jerusalem for thirty eight years (John 5:7).He had nobody to put him first into the pool for his healing when the angel was stirring up the water. Though there were several people around him, no one listened to his cry and stretched out his helping hand. He became utterly helpless and hopeless. At that time Jesus Christ came there and showed compassion on him and said 'Get up, pickup your bed and walk'. At once he was completely healed and walked with his bed.All classes of people, the learned and the unlearned, the wise and the unwise, the rich and the poor, the young and the old, at sometime or other may cry "I have nobody".Medical science has advanced to a great extent in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Still millions of people face untimely death due to both incurable diseases and unprecedented calamities. AIDS has become a nightmare throughout the world. The strong men of today may stoop tomorrow. When you are bedridden you may desperately cry "I have nobody".Unexpected financial crisis, breaking up of families and other social issues may make you physically, mentally and spiritually depressed. If you seek the service of a great physician who will provide total healing to your body, mind , and sprit, your life will be instantaneously changed. Is it not amazing to know that the Great Physician Jesus Christ who had healed the man in Jerusalem is still alive.Listen to his unique challenge. 'Come to me all you who are weary and overburdened, I will give you rest.' (Mathew.11:28) He forgives all your sins . His blood will wash away all your sins and make them as white as snow even though they are as red as scarlet. He will give you eternal life.Don't delay. Life is short. Eternity hastens. Why not take a decision and pray in this manner with a sincere heart. Your life will never be the same again."Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. I need your help. I believe that you bore my sins and sickness on the cross. Wash me, Lord, with your precious blood and make me a new creation. Amen"

Ready for Harvest!!

John 4:35-38 "..................Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours"
